By Elvis Basudde Kyeyune Ever known that musical instruments can converse with each other? Yes, they can, especially if they are in expert hands, and the Pride Ideal Sounds Band is sure-fire proof of this. Pride Ideal Sounds is a new band that has just emerged on Kampala’s music scene. It is barely a month old. It is the offspring of Bakayimbira Dramactors in conjunction with Gloria Nambi. Nambi, 22, is a new singing sensation. The band revolves around this explosively beautiful and light-skinned lady, and guess what: the band would probably never have been what it is without her. It is 8.00pm on a cool Friday night and we are at the Pride Afrique Corner, a popular night-spot on Namirembe road where this new-born group is found. The event is the official launch of the new group and Nambi’s third album, Gwakusinga. On stage is Nambi the lead vocalist and composer of most of the band’s songs and Medi Mugerwa, also a vocalist and dancer. Mugerwa is Nambi’s husband. Both have stuck together as musicians. This is the one unique thing with them. Others on stage are Sukku on base guitar, Serugo on jazz guitar, Badru on solo while Sebandeke is on keyboard. Gloria performs some of the best tracks on her first and second albums which include Akamuli, musajjawange, Gwakusinga and others. The band’s menu is mainly their unrecorded varied repertoire which is mainly in Luganda. They also play Lingala music, reggae, jazz, country and western, Zulu and pop. One thing is for sure with this band: it will get you off your seat to dance. ends
