Wavamunno to over see Tanzania rally

MOTOR sport world governing body, FIA has appointed Federation of Motor sport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president Jack Wavamunno (right) foreign steward of the Mobitel Kilimanjaro rally of Tanzania due next weekend.

By Douglas Mazune MOTOR sport world governing body, FIA has appointed Federation of Motor sport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) president Jack Wavamunno (right) foreign steward of the Mobitel Kilimanjaro rally of Tanzania due next weekend. The rally is an Africa Rally Championship (ARC) candidate event. Wavamunno will preside over the rally with other stewards who include Serge Evrard of Rwanda and Tanzania’s Amyn Bapoo. They are charged with enforcing FIA rules. Wavamunno was delighted by the appointment. “I did not know I had been appointed until people from Tanzania called me. I am happy to be entrusted with that role,” he said with a hearty laugh. Several FMU members are on the organising committee of the event that will determine whether FIA grants the event ARC status. David Mayanja who has been clerk of course (COC) for the TOTAL Pearl of Africa rally for the last four years is assistant to the event’s COC Arif Ahmed. Several Ugandan marshals will volunteer to assist their Tanzanian counterparts. The marshals are already in Tanzania training their counterparts ahead of the rally. Meanwhile sh0.2m is up for grabs for the winner of the second UMOSPOC treasure hunt on November 3 in Kampala. ends
