By Kenneth Otim ELECTIONS for the Local council elections in Soroti were characterised by a poor voter turn up. In Serere where people had turned up in large numbers to vote, the exercise was interrupted when some un registered voters stormed the polling stations asking to be allowed to vote. The presiding officers received attacks and were insulted as they tried to stop the large crowd from voting. The crowd threatened to halt the exercise if they were not allowed to vote. In campswahili Ejalu cell, over 100 unregistered people wanted to vote. Eleven had registered. The unregistered people forced the female presiding officer to register them or else interrupt the elections. The district returning officer and Chief Administration Officer, George William Omuge, said apart from some allegations of voters fighting in Serere, there was no other election malpractice in the district. He said Soroti residents had not taken the registering exercise seriously but when it came to the election day, they wanted to vote. ends
