The Police in Rakai on Tuesday closed Kamengo Technical Institute and dispersed over 430 students who had reportedly planned to burn down the school.
District CID boss Tarsisio Katesigwa said the Police had been deployed at the school after the students refused to leave.
The Police from Kalisizo rushed to the institute and joined their colleagues from Lwanda Police Post and chased away the students. They were still guarding the school by yesterday.
Many of the students were reported to have gathered at the Police post and the trading centre, saying they had no transport fare home.
Principal Mustafa Bakulu had earlier held an urgent meeting with the Board of Governors and the district officials and agreed to close the school for two weeks. He also asked the Police for security.
The students had allegedly bought petrol to use to set the school on fire. The Police said the students were protesting orders to pay school fees.
The school administration accused some ministry officials for inciting the students against paying school fees, claiming the Government had waived off fees in technical schools. Those who had paid demanded a refund.
