The project seeks to recruit a Monitoring and Evaluation Officer who will take the lead in further developing and implementing the project Monitoring & Evaluation strategy. The Monitoring & Evaluation Officer will report to the Chief Technical Adviser. S/he will work closely with the Senior Warden in Charge, Mount Elgon National Park, other park staff, the District Environment Officers and Sustainable Development Co-ordinators in monitoring project-funded activities in the field and in reporting on project progress.
The specific responsibilities of the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer include:
l Co-ordinate the development and implementation of the project Monitoring & Evaluation strategy.
l Co-ordinate the preparation of work plans, verify compliance with work plan targets and budgets, and compilation of reports by each of the project components
l Assist in developing new systems for ecological and community resource use
monitoring.
l Co-ordinate collection of base line data for the projects Sustainable Development and Community Conservation components.
Suitable candidates should have a primary degree in natural or social sciences (or other relevant disciplines) with a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience, a masters degree will be an added advantage. Candidates must be willing to undertake fieldwork in the mountainous conditions at Mount Elgon. Good communication and report writing skills are required. Proficiency in the use of MS-Office, GIS and data base management skills would be an added advantage.
