SIR—While listening to Monitor FM, I was amazed to hear Maj Rudasingwa of Rwanda claim that Uganda should be grateful to Rwanda because Rwandese participated in the NRA war. This was in response to Lt-Gen David Tinyefuza’s remark that Uganda stood by Rwanda at the most critical time when everyone else was not willing to do so and that Uganda expected Rwanda to honour its assistance. For Rudasingwa to compare Uganda’s help to the Rwandese in the RPA war with Rwandese participation in the NRA struggle is total lack of sincerity. The Rwandese who joined the NRA war lived in Uganda as Ugandans and were known as such. They went to Ugandan schools, hospitals and university and colleges. When President started a protracted war against dictators in Uganda, some people of Rwandese origin joined as Ugandans. The NRA did not ask for them from Rwanda to fight the guerrilla war against Obote. On the other hand, the RPA started off with entandikwa of Ugandan arms. The Ugandan army helped to guide the Rwandese defeat the interahamwe. Also Uganda fought for Rwanda in the UN and other fora. John Baptist Wasswa Kampala
