A UPDF soldier attached to the President’s office died yesterday after a vehicle he was driving crashed into two high voltage electric poles at Lugogo, Kampala, and overturned. Geoffrey Kamali and Steven Candia report that four passengers in the vehicle, one of them a woman, sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Mulago hospital. The deceased, only identified as Sgt. Ndaula, was driving a white Prado, with registration numbers, UAD 601B. His body was taken to the city mortuary, awaiting a post -mortem. Ndaula was reportedly driving from Nakawa to the city centre at 3:15am, when the accident occurred. Earlier reports on FM stations put the death toll at seven. The injured were Francis Ssebajje, Joseph Rwegaba, Esther Nabukenya and Richard Ssejingo. Ssebajje and Rwegaba were in the intensive care unit while the others were transferred to Ward 3BE. The traffic officer at Jinja Road Police station, Alex Twebaze, said the accident might have been caused by over speeding. “given the impact of the crash, it reflects an element of high speed,” he said.
