Rwakijuma Sworn In As New Tooro Premier

Steven Nyabongo Rwakijuma, was on Sunday sworn in replacing Katuramu, now on death row.

By Emmanuel Mulondo THE new Tooro kingdom Premier Omuhikirwa, Steven Nyabongo Rwakijuma, was on Sunday sworn in replacing Katuramu, now on death row. The ceremony took place at the Karuziika main palace before King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru. Nyabongo swore two oaths to pay his allegiance to the Omukama and to keep secrets that will come his way by virtue of his office. The oaths were administered by a Fortportal court magistrate. Present were the Queen Mother, Best Kemigisha, Tourism minister, Prof. Edward Rugumayo, Kabarole district chairman Augustine Kayonga, royals and members of the kingdom’s parliament. The function was proceeded by a church service the Anglican St. John’s Cathedral which was led by retired Bishop, Eustace Kamanyire. Nyabongo has been acting Omuhikirwa since the arrest of Katuramu in 1999. Ends
