By Jude Etyang THE Kampala Central Division Democratic Party (DP) chairman, Sebuwufu Kiyimba, has stepped down from the Kampala LC3 chairmanship race in favour of a fellow DP member Charles Sserunjogi. Sebuwufu, a Uganda Young Democrat (UYD), founder member, declared his intention yesterday at a press conference, following talks between him and Sserunjogi. The talks were arbitrated by Mike Mabikke the Makindye East MP. Mabikke and Bob Ntale, also UYD founder member, were present at the press conference held at UYD headquarters at London Chambers building on Johnstone street. Sebuwufu said it was a matter of political maturity and a manifestation of exemplary leadership that he “painfully”decided to withdraw his candidature for Sserunjogi. Sebuwufu apologised to his supporter but said that the party was bigger and that he would support Sserunjogi. He said he was officially endorsed in September as the party candidate for the chairmanship of the division and that Sserunjoji was endorsed for the parliamentary seat which he lost to Capt. Francis Babu. Sebuwufu said there was tension in the DP camp when Sserunjoji declared his interest for the seat regardless of his (Sebwufu’s) candidature, and this threatened to divide the party’s votes. He said he wanted Sserunjogi to have a second chance because he had failed in the parliamentary elections. Ends
