THE secretary of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), Mr. Matthew Bukenya, on Saturday rushed to Entebbe to probe reports of examination leakages, reports John Eremu. “I am investigating the issue. I will give a full report when I get the details, but there is no cause for the public to be alarmed,” Bukenya told The New Vision. The leakages were reported at Entebbe Parents and Entebbe Senior Secondary schools where the police investigating the case arrested over 20 Ordinary Level candidates on Friday. The headmistress Entebbe SSS, Ms. Yunia Lubega, who is also UNEB area supervisor as well as her Entebbe Parents counterpart could not be reached for comment. The Entebbe Divisional Police Commander, Anne Rose Arengo, confirmed the arrests but would not give the identity the students. “We had arrested between 15 and 20 students but we released most of them on bond. We now have only five, all from Entebbe Parents (a private school). We want them to reveal the source of the papers,” Arengo said. She said the suspects will be allowed to continue with their exams but are required to report to the police station daily until the case is disposed off. Arengo said the suspects were reported by UNEB scouts who found them in possession of questions similar to those of the papers done in the morning and those yet to be done in the afternoon. She said the worst affected subject was Chemistry theory. Entebbe education officer, Ms. Aida Lubwama said she had voiced her concern over the thin number of UNEB staff supervising the municipality.
