The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking to recruit a Research Associate in Entomology who will be based at the Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute.

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking to recruit a Research Associate in Entomology who will be based at the Kawanda Agricultural Research Institute. IITA works on the integrated pest management of banana weevil including host plant resistance, biological control and cultural control. This work is done in close collaboration with the Ugandan NARO National Banana Research Programme and other stakeholders. The primary duties of the research associate will be to support the principal scientists and graduate students in carrying out research, primarily, in the area of host plant resistance and, secondarily, in the area of insect pathology. This would include development and implementation of field trials, laboratory experiments, supervision of data collection, data entry and analysis, synthesis and writing of reports and co-ordination of field labour. It is expected that the Research Associate will develop his/her own areas of research interest and contribute to the project development in these areas. The successful candidate should have : 1. Master's Degree in agricultural sciences, preferably with an emphasis on pest management or germplasm enhancement 2. Knowledge of agronomic practices/statistics/experimental procedures and a good understanding of insect-plant interactions 3. Excellent communication, interpersonal and reporting skills., 4. The ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and in a cross-cultural setting. Knowledge and use of molecular markers an advantage. Possession of a valid driver's license would be desirable. IITA is an international agricultural research center, based in Ibadan, Nigeria.
