THE Andrew Mukasa, Fred Okello and Toto Songe recruitment drive might have heightened competitiveness grounds for Express’ striking slot, but veteran Mathias Kaweesa (right), whose career has been blighted by the age factor, believes he still has what it takes to command as a regular for at least one more season.
“I might be old and younger players seem to join the club, but the fact that I can still get the goals shows how good I am. The current generation of players just can’t match my abilities. Besides, Magumba, Malinga, Mubiru understand the game but none plays my position.
“I have had to accept over a period of time due to fan pressure that am not productive any more, but I think I still had something for the Cranes. I am just 34 yet Hossam Hassan (Egypt) has done wonders at 40 and so has George Weah (Liberia),†Kaweesa reasoned.
Kaweesa went to extraordinary lengths to try and alleviate his status pedigree in Ugandan football and future.
“I have been approached by several young players for tips, Mubiru being one of them,†Kaweesa said
If Kaweesa retires into business next year as he said then it will seemingly wind a career of a player whose services have either been loved or disguised, having clinched the top scorer premium thrice while in Nsambya, Coffee and SC Villa.
