MULAGO Hospital is to start levying electricity and water tariffs on patients in the private wing, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) heard yesterday, reports Grace Matsiko. The hospital director, Mr. Lawrence Kaggwa, said the utility levy is to free funds released from the Treasury for service delivery in the private wing, so that they cover other core sectors at the country’s main referral hospital. “We are starting to charge patients in the private wing for utilities like water and electricity. We would offset the consolidated fund that would have been used to pay for those services,” Kaggwa told PAC. Ends
