THE Constitutional Review Commission has ended its consultation trip to South Africa where they conducted studies on the justice court systems and federal system of governance in relation to decentralisation.
The three-member delegation of commissioners also received views from Ugandans living in South Africa. The delegation comprised of Idi Osman Rizgala, Ms Zam Zam Nagujja Kasujja and Prof. Asavia Wandira, all members of the commission.
Wandira yesterday told journalists at the Uganda International Conference Centre, Kampala that the visit was part of the wider consultation process with countries which have constitutions of comparative interest.
The South African High Commission here and the Danish Embassy through DANIDA facilitated the one-week tour of Pretoria and Johannesburg.
The South African High Commissioner, Mohamed Ahmed Cassimjee, said his country has had the same experiences as Uganda and would wish to see Uganda getting total peace and constitutional governance.
“This is the partnership we need. we have had similar experiences and this shows good relationship. During our struggle against apartheid, Uganda assisted us a lot and kept many of our people here, it is a pleasure that we share our achievements,†he said.
Wandira said they interacted with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs there.
