China to build Kamuli quarters

THE Chinese government has pledged to help build teachers’ quarters in Kamuli district to boost the Universal Primary Education (UPE) scheme.

Zhang Xujiang, the Chine ambassador, said, “We show sympathy and support to Uganda, especially in her efforts to promote education. Therefore, my government will contribute towards the construction of teachers’ quarters.” Xujiang made the remarks on Wednesday during the hand-over of building materials to Iringa Township Primary School in Bidiope county, Kamuli district. Accompanied by Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, Xujiang said although China and Uganda were developing countries, together they could expedite development. Kadaga commended the Chinese government for the financial support given to the Uganda since 1962. The Resident District Commissioner, Clement Kandoole, condemned the rate of early marriages in Kamuli, which he said, were a hindrance to the development of UPE. He threatened to drag to court, parents who refuse to take their children to school.
