LC3 Polls To Be Held On Jan 4

By Milton Olupot THE Electoral Commission (EC) has gazetted Friday January 4, 2002 as the polling day for LC3 chairpersons. The directly elected councillors representing parishes/wards and women for the sub-counties, towns and municipal divisions will also be elected the same day. The EC boss Haji Aziz Kasujja, yesterday said in a statement that polling shall take place in all polling stations beginning at 7.00am until 5.00pm. Soon after the polling, counting of votes and declaration of results shall follow. Kasujja has also announced that the public shall inspect nomination papers for candidates contesting for chairperson, councillors and women councillors to the districts seats, from Friday December 14 - December 18 2001. He said all persons who wish to raise objections to the nomination of the various candidates were free to do so, but not later than December 18, 2001. The statement said any anomalies can be reported to returning officers in the areas or the commission headquarters in Kampala. The statement also said the inspection of the nomination papers for candidates vying for various seats in the councils will be held at the offices of returning officers in those districts. Ends
