Voters’ Register Display Period Reduced To 10 Days

THE Legal and Parliamentary affairs committee on Wednesday consented to a provisional amendment to have the period of the national voters’ register display prior to the Local Government elections reduced from 21 to 10 days.

By Vision Reporter THE Legal and Parliamentary affairs committee on Wednesday consented to a provisional amendment to have the period of the national voters’ register display prior to the Local Government elections reduced from 21 to 10 days. The Electoral Commission Amendment Bill 2001 was tabled by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Janat Mukwaya. The amendment is intended to ensure that the elections are conducted on January 4 and 5. “This is not by design, but I am managing a crisis. We are running behind schedule and request that the days be reduced from 21 to 10,” Mukwaya said. The register will be on display from December 14 to 24 as a result of the amendment. Ends
