THE Police have arrested five people suspected to have participated in ethnic violence in which three people died in Katooke sub-county, Kyenjojo district recently.
The district Police commander, Mr. Gaston Bashobora, told The New Vision that the five were screened out of the nine people who were rounded up.
“I do not have their names at hand but we have sent their case file to Fort Portal at the regional office,†he said.
“The Regional criminal investigations officer will pursue the file and send it to the Resident State Attorney if he approves it,†Bashora added.
The violence in which five houses belonging to the Batooro were destroyed had the Batooro fighting the immigrant Bakiga/Bafumbira. Several domestic animals were also hacked to death.
The incident followed the killing of a mufumbira by a mob for allegedly raping an old woman.
The UPDF 309 brigade has since deployed units of the reserve force to maintain order in the area.
The Resident District Commissioner, Grace Ssendabaguzi, over the weekend criticised the violence in rallies she addressed in the area. She called on the fleeing Batooro to return to their homes.
