By Joshua Kato Kisaasi primary school, one of the oldest schools in Kampala district, is to get a face lift. Years of neglect left most utilities at the school in total disrepair. The latrines filled up, the buildings became dilapidated. Teachers’ quarters, which were once magnificent turned into a shameful lot of discoloured buildings. “Teachers find a problem finding where to relieve themselves. They either go to the village, or walk over 400 metres back to the school,” Mr Bateesa, the school head said. There is a renaissance going on at the school now. In the latest drive, Mr Latif Ssebagala, MP Kawempe north, has donated 10 bags of cement towards the rebuilding of the teachers’ toilets. Ssebagala made the donation during the school’s open day, December 9. He is also an old boy of the school which is over 50 years old. The MP, also a professional teacher, advised parents to work hand in hand with teachers if UPE is to succeed. “UPE alone cannot help us, if you parents don’t take part in its development,” he noted. During the same occasion, parents were shown sports equipment that was donated to the school by Kabira international school. The equipment included footballs, netballs and volleyball nets.
