RWANDAN President Maj Gen Paul Kagame wants relations between his country and Uganda to normalise as was the case years back, Daniel Saire in Kigali. Addressing a press conference at his offices on Wednesday night, Kagame described relations with Uganda as “stable.” “The tension that has been there a couple of months ago has subsided and we continue to work toward achieving a stable and good relationship,” Kagame said. He said he and President Yoweri Museveni held talks in London last month and agreed not to harbour dissident groups seeking to destabilise the two states. Kagame said, “We had discussions in London. Mechanisms have been established and we now have teams on both sides composed of Rwandan and Ugandan officials. It is a process and we shall keep working to remove obstacles.” The two countries were once firm allies but fell out in 1999 after their armies clashed three times in the north-eastern DR Congo city of Kisangani. Kagame said the monitoring teams had not identified anything serious obstacle on either side. Uganda’s team is led by Major James Mugira. Ends
