By Alfred Wasike SECOND deputy premier Brigadier Moses Ali yesterday survived an ambush in Gulu district. His official vehicle, a white Land Cruiser UG0125Z, was showered with bullets by unknown assailants. An obviously relieved Ali, who had been summoned by President Yoweri Museveni for an emergency Cabinet meeting in Kampala today, said yesterday, “I really thank God for saving us. I was on my way from Adjumani to Gulu and then to Kampala for an emergency Cabinet meeting called by His Excellency.” “We took the security road through Pabo to Gulu. We had driven for 28km from Pakele to Pabo. We had just crossed River Seri, the border between Adjumani and Gulu districts at about 2.30pm, when we saw a man running towards us with his arms raised. We heard shots. Our car was hit in several places. The roof, windows, engine and other parts were destroyed,” the minister for disaster preparedness narrated. He also said in English, Kiswahili and Arabic, “But we were lucky. There was a pick-up with six UPDF soldiers who were escorting us. They gave us covering fire to enable us escape out of the ambush. They later fought themselves out of the ambush.” “We thank God for that miracle. We need to do something about the security of this area,” the minister said. Ends
