A MAKERERE University Guild Representative Council (GRC) member has refuted allegations that he is not a student, reports Solomon Muyita. Hamidu Tibenkana, a GRC student representative on the sub-tender committee, said he is a fully registered Bachelor of Arts student of Makerere University, resident in university's Nsibirwa Hall. Sunday Vision on November 26, reported that one of the reasons the GRC wants to censure the guild president, Asuman Basalirwa, was that he (Basalirwa) appointed Tibenkana, "his brother and non-student of the University to represent Makerere in University committees." "I'm a student and my identity card is BA 98/U/3152. Let those who think I'm a non-student consult the academic registrar's office, identity card section to prove," Tibenkana said. Tibenkana said the reports were likely to ruin his name by creating the impression that he masquerades as a university student. He said the allegations were being made by disgruntled students who hoped to be appointed ministers by Basalirwa. Tibenkana said his relationship with the guild president was not the yardstick used to appoint him represent the students. He said he was capable enough to represent the students. Ends.
