Falcons win after Power-ful collapse

Defending champions Falcons faced Mombasa, who beat Rhino, in the ultimate stage last night at the YMCA court. Lady Bucks, who saw off A-1 Challenge, faced Mombasa in the women's contest also last night. Point guard Justus Mwisakyeni spurred Falcons with 22 points, two-time MVP Steven Omwony and new signing Eric Malinga adding 21 and 18 respectively. Falcons had started strongly, taking a 16-0 lead just four minutes into the game, but Power, lifted by the inspired Charles Baryamujura, recovered to level on 20-20 before taking a slim half-time lead on 39-37. In the second period Falcons recovered to regain the lead as Power's Wilbrod Oketcho and Julius Wapera were fouled out. Baryamujura finished with a game-high 31 points, 21 of them coming from three pointers. In the ladies games MVP Lillian Letaru propelled Lady Bucks with 22 points, Annet Nakiwu adding 14 as they outclassed local rivals A-1 Challenge. In the second ladies semi-final, the physically superior Mombasa made easy work of Amazon Rhino. .Mariam Awuor scored a game-high 22 points for Mombasa. Falcons, Power and host club Rhino have each won the men's title once in the seven-year-old tournament. Ends
