LYANTONDE district could lose all candidates for the Woman MP seat. Court has dismissed an application by one of the contestants, Ruth Asiimwe Kanyaruju, who was seeking an extension of time within which to appeal against her disqualification from the race.
The EC disqualified her for not resigning from her job in the ministry of information communication technology before nomination.
The law requires a public servant to resign at least 90 days before nomination.
Meanwhile, the other candidate, Grace Namara, is fighting a petition challenging her academic credentials.
Namara was dragged to court by Kanyaruju who claimed she used a forged PLE certificate to join Kampala Secondary School.
If court grants Kanyaruju’s petition, the district will have no Woman MP candidate.
