KIU is a private university in Uganda chartered by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). According to the council’s website, KIU has been a recognised university since 2001 and it received the charter on March 1, 2010.

Phenny Birungi, the NCHE assistant director, says if a private university is accredited, its academic awards are recognised internationally like those of other public universities.
There is no cause for worry.

I am studying geography, economics, agriculture and fine art (GEA/F). What course will I do?

You can be eligible for a number of courses if you pass A’ level. According to the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) guidelines, you can qualify for bachelor of arts in economics especially if you pass economics because it is the essential subject for this course.

The admissions board also lists courses which do not have specific essential subjects, but one can be admitted as long as they have at least two principal passes. Such courses include library and information science, social sciences, social work and social administration, arts in education, tourism, mass communication, community psychology.

I did biology, chemistry, geography/fine art and obtained 15pts 6DDCC last year. Do I qualify for any medical course.

ABiology and chemistry are the essential subjects for medical courses, according to Fatumah Nakatudde, the registrar of Makerere University College of Health Sciences.

At least one principal pass and two subsidiaries is the minimum entry requirement for diploma courses.

Since you scored principal passes in both biology and chemistry, it means you are eligible for admission for a diploma.

Universities like Mbarara and Kampala International offer diplomas in nursing, clinical medicine and community health among others.

There are other diploma-awarding institutions like the paramedical school at Mulago which you can also try out.
