WEIGHING 134-kg, Pirates coach Brian Makalama is not only the latest but heaviest man to occupy the hot seat at a club that never offers coaches a second chance.
Makalama is neither shaken nor under-estimates today’s Nile Special Premier Rugby League encounter with Kobs.
His actical credentials will come under scrutiny as well.
He described the Kampala Club derby as a ‘battle of minds and not muscle’.
Makalama argued that since the teams match each other physically, wit would prevail.
“Playing real rugby starts now when we start taking on big teams. I have been there and done it,†Makalama stated.
“I can’t vouch for my team now because I can’t tell how they will play. It’s a good challenge. I believe we can get good a result from them.â€
The former Cranes prop Makalama would have loved to take to the pitch but admitted his fitness level was still wanting.
“Kobs have a superb backline which is a challenge to us. We will play to neutralise their backline. We have forwards who want to bring the game to them,†Makalama added.
It’s going to be a clinical game. Whoever makes less, mistakes will win.â€
Kobs that are one point clear of Pirates and level with table leaders Heathens at 20 points must win to keep tabs on the champions.
Kobs have exhibited great form so far convincingly winning their previous four games which have in turn enabled them shed off pre-season rust.
Kobs senior players are back in the fold and blended well with the youngsters which could prove lethal to Pirates.
In Entebbe, Mongers host Heathens hoping to deny them victory to preserve a perfect home record at the House of Pain.
In the bottom half of the table, Buffaloes hope to register a maiden win when they host Nile at Kyadondo.
Rhinos face off with Impis in the contest that can go either way.
