SECURITY has been beefed up in Mbarara town ahead of tomorrow’s polls with UPDF soldiers aboard armored vehicles (mambas) and a jet flying over the town.

Addressing journalists in his office at Booma in Mbarara town on Wednesday, Clement Kandole, said mambas and soldiers were brought to assist the Police in Friday’s elections.

He accused the opposition of using provocative statements and instilling fear in the public by telling them not to vote on Friday because there would be chaos.

He said they had identified areas in Mbarara where they expect chaos among the voters with some threatening to riot.

The areas include, Rwebikoona, Nyamityobora and Kashanyarazi in Mbarara Municipality, Rubindi, Bwizibwera and Biharwe in Kashari Constituency, Nyeihanga and Ndaija in Rwampara Constituency.

The rioters are also targeting institutions like Mayanja Memorial and Mbarara community hospitals, banks and schools, according to the Police.
