Can I join Nkumba through Mature entry?

Can I join Nkumba through Mature entry?

ANSWER:
Charles Ssentongo, the deputy registrar for admissions at Makerere University, says you do not qualify for degree courses. However, you can enroll for a diploma in any institution that awards diplomas. Since you scored a principal pass in entrepreneurship, he suggests that you try applying for a diploma in entrepreneurship and small business management at Makerere University Business School.
Can I join Nkumba University through the mature age entrance or a post O’ level certificate in hotel management?

Nkumba University provides for admission through the mature age entry scheme, where one has to be 25 years of age to compete. According to admissions’ information on its website, one must have completed O’ level at least five years back to apply for diploma courses. For degree courses, they must have completed S6. However, applicants are required to sit for and pass mature age entry examinations to be admitted.

You cannot be admitted for any degree programme because you did not score two principal passes, which is the minimum entry requirement. However, Charles Ssentongo, Makerere University’s deputy registrar for admissions, says you can enroll for a diploma course in any institution including the national teachers colleges (NTCs), technical colleges and the Law Development Centre.

The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) requires that students score at least one principal pass and two subsidiaries to be admitted for diploma courses.
I am an S5 drop-out with 10 years’ work experience. I have computer knowledge from MUK CCA course. Can I enroll for CCNA or are there other courses leading to degree enrolment?

You can enroll for CCNA but not use it to get admitted for a degree programme, says Deborah Natujura, the officer in charge of CISCO short courses at Makerere University. The minimum requirement for CCNA is an O’ level certificate. If you want to pursue a degree course, you repeat and sit S6 exams or mature entry.
