Govt declares public holiday for mayoral elections

Government has declared Wednesday February 23 a public holiday.

Government has declared Wednesday February 23 a public holiday.

This is to allow Ugandans of voting age to participate in the mayoral and the local government elections country wide. The Second Deputy Prime minister and Minister for Public service Henry Kajura Muganwa made the announcement in Kampala today.

One of the closest mayoral races today is expected to be in the capital Kampala where there are six candidates. They are; Erias Lukwago (Suubi 2011), Peter Sematimba (NRM), Francis Babu (Independent), Michael Mabikke (IPC), Sandra Katebalirwe (independent) and Emmanuel Tumusiime (FIL).

The Electoral Commission has said that all is set for the elections and has appealed to the voters to take part in the elections.
