Jamwa ruling flops
A judgment in the case of abuse of office and causing loss of over sh3b against former NSSF managing director, Chandi Jamwa, flopped yesterday.

A judgment in the case of abuse of office and causing loss of over sh3b against former NSSF managing director, Chandi Jamwa, flopped yesterday.
The trial judge, John Bosco Katutsi, yesterday said he was not able to deliver the judgment because he was in South Africa attending a conference.
Katutsi, also the head of the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court, told the court that was attended by Jamwa, accompanied by his mother that he would give his verdict on March 3, at 9.00 am.
In January, the two assessors, Silver Kakumba and Agnes Mugala, advised the court to acquit Jamwa, saying he did not act on his own. They also told the court that the money Chandi is accused to have caused loss of was deposited on different fixed accounts where it was earning higher interest rates for NSSF.
“If the bonds were not sold, they would have affected the budget of NSSF, which was short of money,†the assessors further asserted.
Jamwa’s lawyer, David Mpanga, asked court to acquit his client, saying the prosecution had failed to prove its case.
