BACK-to-back defeats to Kobs have strengthened Heathens’ resolve going into today’s Nile Special Premier Rugby League encounter at Kampala Club.

“We are happy to come into the game as underdogs. We won’t talk much, we shall wait for the game,” Heathens coach Brian Tabaruka remarked.

Last season Heathens lost to Kobs in their last league game and went on to lose the Uganda Cup final to the same side.

Tabaruka warned that circumstances under which Heathens lost have since changed.

“What happened last season has no bearing at all on this match. It means nothing. This is a new season and it’s a different game. Playing at Kampala is not different from our home, we are used to the crowds there so it will be business as usual,” Tabaruka downplayed Kobs’ perceived advantage.

Heathens’ players suffered knocks in the previous outing against Entebbe Mongers but have since recovered.

Bereaved Kobs requested to have the game today to enable them attend the burial of former Uganda Olympic Committee boss, the late Maj. Gen. Francis Nyangweso, in Busia tomorrow.

Three of Nyangweso’s sons played for Kobs and the rugby fraternity will observe a moment of silence before the games this weekend. The teams will wear black arm-bands.

“He was a statesman and a father figure to the club, we would like to honour him with a win,” Kobs captain Brian Odong said.

“Heathens play as a unit and breaking them will take hard work. I have seen cohesion in Kobs of recent which should deliver victory for us,” Odong noted. Odong will have the services of Allan Matsiko who has recovered from injury while Steven Ogwete will be subjected to a late fitness test.
