RESULTS from the countryside show a considerable number of new entrants in the hotly contested Wednesday LC5 elections, with some sailing through unopposed.

However, many incumbents managed to retain their seats.

In Kampala, elections were postponed by the Electoral Commission (EC) after violence broke out in several areas, amid reports of vote rigging and ballot stuffing.

The EC deputy chairman Joseph Biribonwa said the Kampala elections were called off due to polling officials’ failure to observe opening procedures, ballot stuffing and connivance by some of the officials with candidates’ agents to breach procedures.
