THE defeat of all the top Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)officials in Bunyoro region in the just concluded paliamentary and local council elections is a clear message, the Banyoro support and love the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

It is very encouraging on the side of NRM to see that all the candidates FDC fielded against the NRM candidates for paliamentary seats, lost.

During the campaigns many thought the post for the Hoima and Masindi municipality would go to FDC candidates because, Patrick Baguma of FDC who is also a national vice-chairman FDC in charge of western and Moses Tugume a lawyer by profession in Masindi were always on the radio assuring the listeners that victory was on their side, but on the polling day, they all lost.

In Bugahya Hioma, FDC supporters were sure that their candidate Jackson Wabyona Rugambwa who is also deputy secretary general to Kizza Besigye was going to win, but he only came third after loosing to NRMs Kizza Rwebembera James. Also FDCs Deputy spokesperson Toterebuka Bamwenda lost miserably to NRMs Ignatious Besisiira in Buyaga kibaale.

After the presidential and parliamentary elections, FDC joined hands and mobolised to see that they at least win the Hoima and Masindi municipal mayoral ships but still things did not work out well for them as they lost both seats to NRM.

As an NRM cadre and senior mobiliser, I was very confident that Francis Atugonza the incumbent mayor Hoima would not get a second term while still in FDC. We know very well how he managed to win in 2006 and we were not ready to repeat the same mistakes to give him victory this time around.

Everytime I was on radio talk-shows our NRM supporters would assure us of victory saying that they could not betray President Museveni who gave them two municipality’s Hoima and Masindi and reward him by appointing opposition leaders to head these municipalities.

I know that the FDC leadership was very shocked to hear that their perceived strongman in Bunyoro Francis Atugonza lost because they were confident that he could not be defeated.

In fact our NRM candidate Grace Mugasa would have scored much higher if another NRM member David Kaboyo had not stood as an Independent and divided the NRM votes.

Sometime back I had written on these pages stating reasons why the Banyoro would vote for President Museveni and indeed they gave him 85% of the votes.

When the President was in Bunyoro during the campaigns he demonstrated the love he has for Bunyoro by promising them a ministry responsible for Bunyoro Affairs. This of course excited the Banyoro the more because they know Bunyoro suffered alot of historical injustices and this ministry is very vital in solving their problems.

In fact the Banyoro are now happy that the region is free of oppositon leaders and what is next now, is development. With three new districts promised by the President namely Kigorobya, Kagadi and Kakumiro people are expecting services to be brought closer to them, employment and other benefits that come with districts.

What the people of Hoima will not forget in the next five years is the tear gas they were subjected to during Atugonza regime. It was a result of Atugonza’s demonstration against Eng Badru Kigundu the Electoral Commission boss.

Infact Atugonza defeat explains that he was not worth sh1.5b which he claimed Odrek Rwabogo had offered him to cross to the NRM. I know very well that Atugonza tried to field FDC candidates including their Hoima district register Joseph Muganyizi to stand as councillors at both divisions, municipality and district, but they all lost.

In Buliisa, the incumbent mayor wills kinobe crossed to NRM from FDC and actually he came to hoima and campaigned for he NRM candidate for the mayor seat and I salute him for that.He was not bribed as some of his colleagues alleged after his defection to NRM he only saw the truth.

It was also interesting to see that Aziz Kalyegira the former district youth councillor who was voted as independent in 2006, joined council and crossed to FDC and also stood on FDC ticket was voted out in the favour of NRM candidate.

In all the district councills of Bunyoro including the municipalities, theres no single member from the oppostion family all are dominated by NRM and i hope if as NRM cadres continue mobilising the people we shall not have any opposition in bunyoro in 2016 and all in all the opposition has been uprooted from Bunyoro region.

Many thanks to the voters.
