Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released Advanced Level examinations results for last year showing a slight improvement in performance compared to 2009.

UGANDA National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released Advanced Level examinations results for last year showing a slight improvement in performance compared to 2009.

Female candidates performed better than males in Entrepreneurship, Islamic, Divinity, Geography, Literature in English, Mathematics, Biology and Food and Nutrition while male candidates were better in Economics, Physics, Chemistry and Art.

Education Minister, Namirembe Bitamazire released the results at Statistics House in Kampala early today. The Minister has advised those who have not made it to university, to take advantage of other tertiary institutions.

More candidates 61,820 have qualified for places in tertiary institutions compared to 60,370 in 2009, an increase of 1,450.

A total of 101,495 candidates sat for Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) last year compared to 98,219 in 2009 showing an increase of 3,278 or 3.3%.

UNEB executive secretary Mathew Bukenya said a total of 68 candidates have had their results withheld for further investigations for being in possession of an authorized notes and collusion in examination room. They are scattered in several centers across the country. Center U2095 Lugazi Homeland College is being withheld for serious administrative flaws inimical to the proper conduct of UNEB examinations.

Candidates and parents can access their results through short messages on their mobile phones.

A number of candidates failed. They did not get the two principle passes. In Bugiri 21 failed, Busia 27, Gulu 55, Hoima 10, Iganga 45, Jinja 39, Buikwe 149, Kampala 184, Luwero 23, Masaka 17, Mbale, Mukono 28 and Mbarara 32 among other districts.
