OVER 80 families in Kanungu district are homeless after a devastating hailstorm ravaged the area blowing off roof tops from their houses. A number of gardens were destroyed animals injured.

The most affected areas by the Tuesday storms are Nyanga and Bihomborwa ward in Kihiihi town council.

Kihiihi sub county Chairperson Nelson Natukunda said the disastrous rain lasted for about hours.

"We are lucky nobody was killed but many buildings were blown off while others were completely brought down," Ntukunda said.

At Kinyangwe Church of Uganda in Bihomborwa ward, the house of the Lay Leader, Bernard Nkirirehi was blown off by the hailstorm.

Rev Kabareebe Edward said that the roof top was thrown about 20 meters away while another building under construction was brought down.

Nkirirehi has since shifted with his family of 8 members to a nearby trading center where he is renting a house.

Local authorities said most of the affected families have moved to live with their relatives elsewhere while others are now renting in Kihiihi Town.
