THE amount of rain currently being received in several parts of the country will reduce in May, a weather report from the meteorology department shows.

THE amount of rain currently being received in several parts of the country will reduce in May, a weather report from the meteorology department shows.
The report indicates that some districts in the eastern region like Jinja, Kamuli, Luuka, Kaliro, Iganga, Tororo, Busia, Mayuge and Bugiri are likely to receive steady rains up to May.
Meanwhile the northern eastern region of Katakwi, Moroto, Kotido and Nakapiripirit districts is expected to start receiving rains early this month, after a severe dry spell.
Steady rains are also expected in Lira, Pader and Kitgum up to the beginning of May.
Amuru, Gulu and Apac which are currently dry, will start receiving steady rains early this month up to mid-May, when heavey rains are expected. In June, the central norhtern region will get moderate rains.
The north western districts of Moyo, Yumbe, Adjumani, Arua, Terego, Zombo and Nebbi are expected to receive steady rains from this month up to mid June.
The western region is expected to experience heavy rains early this month up to May, with less rain around early June.
The South western region including Kasese, Bushenyi, Rukungiri, Kanungu, Ibanda, Mbarara, Kiruhura, Ntungamo, Kisoro and Kabale are expected to experience less rain towards the end of April.
The Lake Victoria Basin and Central region will experience sporadic thunderstorms between this month and early May.
While releasing the weather report at the media centre on Thursday, information and national guidance minister Kabakumba Masiko advised the public to harvest rain water and use it sparingly.
She also advised them to plant early maturing crops that are drought resistant.
