COMMONWEALTH Games double gold medallist Moses Kipsiro will be crowned as the top athlete for 2010 at Serena Hotel today.

Kipsiro's crowning will also seal activities of the annual Uganda Athletics Federation gala.

Traditionally, the athlete of the year is announced moments before the crowning but this time, Kipsiro’s achievements have dwarfed his opponents making him stand out as a firm favourite.

Kipsiro was the only Uganda's medallist at the New Delhi Commonwealth Games where he won gold in the 5000m and 10000m.

He started the season by winning a bronze medal at the World Cross country championships.

Kipsiro also grabbed silvers in the 3000m and 5000m at the IAAF Inter continental championships.

Earlier on, Kipsiro was voted the male athlete of 2010 by the Uganda Sports Press Association.

The gala was pushed forward from January to allow the athletes prepare for the World Cross country championships held in Spain a fortnight ago.

Africa triple jump champion Sarah Nambawa will be crowned the female athlete of the year.

The gala will be preceded by the second national trial at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. The event has drawn all the top athletes including Kipsiro and Geoffrey Kusuro.
