VICTORS FC put up a gallant fight last night but eventually conceded a late goal to fall out of the CAF Confederations Cup.

DC Motema Pembe midfielder Makoko Mayayi struck from a free kick to send the Democratic Republic of Congo side to the next stage of the competition.

Goalkeeper Ali Kimera had until that fateful moment put up an outstanding show before a 60000 hostile crowd in Kinshasa’s Stade de Martyrs stadium. Kimera pulled off numerous saves as the hosts piled pressure.

But despite that, the visitors also had their moments. In two of these Victors’ lead striker Yuda Mugalu broke through but failed to find the mark.

A 1-1 result would have had the match going into a post match penalty shootout after a 1-1 first leg in Kampala.
Motema Pembe had expected a big home win only to encounter a very confident opposition.

A plan to distabilise the visitors with an overnight Kofi Olomide music show at their hotel also did not pay off.

The show could not go ahead because of a heavy downpour that continued through the night on the eve of the match. Victors return today.
