Karamoja orphans get scholastic materials

PRIMARY school age going orphans and vulnerable children in Lotome, Rupa sub counties in Moroto and Napak districts have received scholastic materials worth sh7m.

PRIMARY school age going orphans and vulnerable children in Lotome, Rupa sub counties in Moroto and Napak districts have received scholastic materials worth sh7m.

The items include mathematical sets, bags, exercise books, pens and pencils. A total of 1,602 children in Kalokengel, Lomuno, Lotome Boys, Lotome Girls, and Nachuka primary schools in Lotome sub County benefited.

Other schools are: Moroto Army, Rainbow, Rupa, Kaloi, Karamoja development agency in Moroto district benefited from the support.

Samuel Ilukol, 16, an orphan, is one of the beneficiaries.

He explains that many of them would stay home doing tedious jobs to raise money for stationery.

“This discouraged us from coming to school, affecting our learning and our performance. I have been battling with difficulties in my education,” he noted.

Speaking at the handover ceremony at Lotome Boys Primary school, PAG-Karamoja international development programme manager James Olupot said the items were meant to improve the quality of life among the pastoralists. “The boys and girls are pillars of the sub region, and leaders of tomorrow beginning from today,” he says.
