TWO bodies of the four people who drowned in Lake Victoria in Namayingo district have been recovered.
The deceased drowned last Tuesday at 11:00pm after their boat hit a rock and split into pieces.
The boat was carrying merchandise with seven people aboard from Rippon landing site in Jinja municipality to Lolwe, Singira and Golofa islands in the newly-created Namayingo district.
The south-eastern police spokesperson, Samson Lubega, said of the seven people, only three survived and they were rescued by the marine police and residents during a joint search.
Lubega said the survivors were found floating on plastic jerrycans.
He identified the survivors as Godfrey Kulaba, 40 and Ronald Koowa, 16, both residents of Lolwe and Muhamad Namukoye, 30, a resident of Jinja district.
The deceased were Tiff Wagwana and Boney Samanya.
Lubega said Wagwana was a resident of Lubanyi village, while Samanya was from Kiringa village, both located in Butagaya sub-county in Jinja.
He said they were still searching for the two other bodies of Gita Mulangira of Kangulumira in Kayunga district and another unidentified man.
Lubega narrated that the accident occurred after the boat operator stopped in the middle of the waters due to heavy winds.
He said the boat had been tied to a rock with a rope and its engine switched off as the occupants waited for the heavy waves to settle.
However, the winds persisted and tore the rope. As a result, the boat was blown onto a rock, which split it into pieces.
The Police assured relatives that the remaining bodies would be retrieved.
