AFTER a year of inactivity, the Masaza Cup rolls off again on April 30 with the kick-off pitting hosts Kyaggwe against Bugerere at the Mehta ground in Lugazi.
Norman Katende reports that having failed to get a sponsor last year, Buganda Land Board is bankrolling the event and, on top of other logistics, handed two sets of jerseys to each of the 18 participating counties.
Gomba won the 2009 crown. Inspection of this year’s venues takes place April 24-26, registration of players is supposed to have closed on Wednesday, according to organising committee secretary Rogers Mulindwa.
The tournament’s goal is to spot talent in Buganda and the move ha so far born fruits.
Internationals Brian Umony, Emma Okwi, Owen Kasule, Karim Ndugwa, Mike Mutyaba among others, were discovered through the tournament to which all players leaving in Buganda and have not featured in the super division are eligible.
