AS schools ended the first term, a primary six pupil in Mitooma district was found to be 18 weeks pregnant.

The police in Ishaka are holding a 28-year-old man who has been working as a house help at the girl’s home, on suspicion of defilement.

The Bushenyi district criminal investigations boss, Ronald Bogere, identified the suspect as Medard Byarimpa of Rwenkuri.
Bogere said Byarimpa was arrested in Ishaka town as he tried to elope with the girl.

He said Byarimpa would be charged with aggravated defilement.
Meanwhile, the police in Mitooma are holding a 19-year-old girl and her boyfriend on allegations of murdering their four-months-old child.

The Mitooma district criminal investigations chief, Jackson Mugisha, identified the two as Melon Kyomuhangi and Deus Kamugisha of Bikungu in Mutara sub-county.

Mugisha said the two have accused each other of killing the baby.
Mugisha said the baby boy was strangled to death with a banana fibre.

He said Kyomuhangi reported the case to the police, before Kamugisha also went to police to file the same complaint against her.
