THE Rev. Reuben Kisembo, who was elected last November as Bishop of Rwenzori Diocese, will be consecrated on May 8.
President Yoweri Museveni is expected as the chief guest at the ceremony at St. John’s Cathedral in Kabarole.
The organising chairman, Chris Tumushabe, addressing the press at the Media Centre yesterday, said the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Luke Orombi will be the main celebrant.
Kisembo replaces Bishop Patrick Kyaligonza who died in a motor accident last year on the Kampala-Fort Portal highway, a few months after he had been consecrated.
“I want to make sure that the youth who had strayed to other churches return to the Church. There is also need to make sure that the Christians live a holistic life with proper care of their souls and bodies,†Kisembo said.
He also plans to improve the education levels of the clergy to enable them execute their duties effectively.
Asked if he was ready to build on the work of his predecessor, Kisembo said: “I studied with him. He was a great man with great ideas. I will make sure all his plans come to pass.†“I went to the same college with him and we almost had the same line of thought,†he added.
Kisembo, who will be the sixth bishop of the diocese, was ordained in January 1991 and priested the following year.
He served as a parish priest in Kicwamba in Kamwenge district.
The diocesan spokesperson and Kabarole district chairman, Richard Rwabuhinga, said Kisembo was promoted to serve as the archdeacon of Kyabenda in Kamwenge district in 1996. In 1999, he was transferred to Fort Portal archdeaconry.
He promised to work with all his might with God’s guidance, to make the Diocese prosperous.
