How can a persistent headache go away?

May 02, 2011

MIGRAINES are common headaches that present with a throbbing pain felt only on one side of the head. They may occur with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or sensitivity to light. Some people who get migraines have warning symptoms called an aura, before the actual headache begins.

Dear Doctor,
I have had a headache for long and it does not seem to go away, what can I do?

Dear Anonymous,
MIGRAINES are common headaches that present with a throbbing pain felt only on one side of the head. They may occur with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, or sensitivity to light. Some people who get migraines have warning symptoms called an aura, before the actual headache begins.

They are triggered by alcohol, allergies, bright lights, odours or perfumes, stress and noise, among others. There is no specific cure for migraine headaches.

The goal is to prevent symptoms by avoiding or changing what triggers the headache. However if it is has persisted for long, see a doctor.
