HARDLY a month to the end of his five-year term, the Jinja district LC5 chairperson, Hanington Basakana, has reshuffled his executive committee and sacked his deputy.

Basakana, who replaced Frederick Kyangwa Lwamusayi with Juma Muyita, said he still had the powers to reshuffle his committee.

Announcing the reshuffle during the last district council meeting on Thursday in the district council hall, Basakana said his term of office would expire in a few days.

He, however, asked Muyita to enjoy the remaining days because it would go on record that he once served as the Jinja district LC5 vice-chairperson.

“You are now the new district LC5 vice-chairperson and you will be issued with a certificate confirming your appointment. You will even place the certificate in your sitting room to brag that you were once a district vice-chairperson,” Basakana said.

Muyita, who replaced Kyangwa, has been the secretary for production.

Kyangwa lost his district council seat after he switched from the NRM party under which he contested in 2006 and stood as an independent in the just concluded general elections.

He tried in vain to reclaim his Busedde sub-county seat to the district council after losing in the party primaries.

However, shifting from his party to vie as an independent cost him a seat in the council.

In a meeting presided over by the speaker, who is also the Jinja district Woman MP-elect, Agnes Nabirye, Basakana also appointed Patrick Mutaasa as secretary for production, replacing Muyita.

Mutaasa represents people with disabilities in the district council and is fighting to retain the seat.
