EDITH Mukyala, a student of Kyambogo University, longed for the day she would share a moment with her prince, William Nadiope (Gabula IV), the popular choice for heir to the Kyabazinga (king) of Busoga’s throne.

We granted her wish. The two met up at City Royale Hotel recently. Solomon Oleny caught up with Edith thereafter.

What did it feel like receiving a call from BLITZ informing you that your request to hang out with His Highness had been granted?
Initially, I thought it was one of my friends joking. After confirming it was true, I was confused and excited at the same time.

Did you give much thought to what you would wear?
(Laughs): Honestly, I was confused about what dress code would impress him. I sought guidance from my fashion-savvy friends. I settled for something that would give me confidence.

How would you describe him?
Nadiope is a perfect gentlemen. He is intelligent and has a lovely sense of humour. At 24, he can perfectly balance academics, kingdom affairs and multiple responsibilities which makes him one in a million.

Sounds like he did more than impress you.
(Nervously licks her lips): Okay… I can’t deny that I was overwhelmed. But even the Bible urges us to “give credit where it is due.”

Did you talk about his love life?
No. He is my prince. He is someone I have revered since my childhood and I was truly honoured to meet him.

Are you single?
Please lay off… what has that got to do with anything?

What did you discuss?
We talked about his social life, his hobbies and life after campus. He said he likes jazz, Gospel and R&B music. What fascinated me was that he actually plays the guitar.

What did you learn that shocked you about the young prince?
(Shaking her head in disbelief) Oh my God, I could not believe he does not take any kind of liquor. He also does not smoke. He strictly takes soft drinks.

How has your life changed now that you have met your prince?
Well, he has unquestionably influenced my perception of life. I now know the value of being principled and down to earth like him. I have also appreciated the need for me to adjust to people of all social backgrounds.

What is that one moment during your meeting that will linger in your mind?
I have never knelt down for any young man in life before. My prince is the first man of his age that has had that privilege.
Opening his car door also felt like opening the gates of heaven for him.

Any last words?
Nothing compares to meeting someone you have admired and looked up to so much. I am glad that Blitz is here to bridge the gap. Thank you very much.
