Nebbi, Zombo get sh348m for NUSAF

NEBBI and Zombo districts have received sh348m for the implementation of the second phase of the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF II). The money was given by the Office of the Prime Minister.

NEBBI and Zombo districts have received sh348m for the implementation of the second phase of the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF II). The money was given by the Office of the Prime Minister.
Charles Muswa, Nebbi NUSAF desk officer, said recently that the funds are meant for 30 sub-projects in the two northern Uganda districts.
“We have received about sh348 for 30 sub-projects from the Office of the Prime Minister for implementing NUSAF II. We further expect about sh845m in the second disbursement,†said Muswa.
He said the money will be used to rehabilitate community infrastructure and projects aimed at increasing household income.
“We have six sub-projects for community infrastructure rehabilitation and 24 household income support projects for the communities,†Muswa said.
The money is part of the over sh3.64b to be injected into 35 districts that are implementing the NUSAF programme under the World Bank and Government of Uganda funding.
The chief administrative officer for Nebbi, Patrick Otto Langoya, said the district will sign a memorandum of understanding with the community before disbursing the funds. He urged the beneficiaries to maintain proper project records and accountability.
“The leaders will make follow-ups to see how you are implementing the projects and expect to find proper records and accountability of the funds,†Otto said.
“Avoid inflating prices during procurement. Where you are stuck, make sure that you consult with the district,†he added.
Joseph Yoacel, Nebbi district vice-chairman, thanked the Government for bringing back NUSAF to save the people from abject poverty.
The resident district commissioner for Nebbi, Alex Manano, said his office will also help to monitor and enhance the effectiveness of the project.
“We shall do follow-ups of the money up to the beneficiaries to avoid corruption,†he said.
