THE Police in Lira have expressed concern over the increasing cases of defilement resulting from alcohol abuse.

Henry Alyanga, the central north Police spokesperson, said four children were defiled in the last two weeks by men who claimed to have committed the offence under the influence of alcohol.

Alyang revealed that Police last week arrested Tony Odyek, 27, of Atenyi village, Amach sub-county in Lira district for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old child.

He said Odyek allegedly defiled the child on May, 3, at about 9:00pm when people were trapping white ants.

Alyang said the child was under the care of Odyek’s mother, Cecilia Adongo.

“He found the girl asleep and defiled her. There after, he threatened to kill her. He alsopromised to give her money if she kept the secret,” Alyanga said.

But after returning from trapping white ants in the morning, Adong noticed the girl limping. When she checked, she found that the girl was severely injured in her private parts.

Alyang said after medical examination, the girl revealed that Odyek defiled her at night when everybody was away and threatened to kill her if she reported the matter.

Odyek however according to Alyanga when arrested begged for pardon saying he defiled the 7-year-old under the influence of alcohol and later fled into hiding for fear of his life after realizing his mistake.

Another suspect Patrick Emor, 33, of Onyapo Oyere village, Odokomit parish, Ojwina division in Lira municipality was May 9 arrested for attempting to defile a 6-year-old girl.

According to Alyanga, the mother of the girl was not at home but when she was returning, she heard her daughter yelling and making alarm prompting her and the neighbors to rush home to find out what was happening to the girl.

He reaching home Alyanga said the woman and other rescuers found Emor naked and struggling to defile the young girl.

Alyanga explained that angry villagers and the mother of the child ganged and beat Emor seriously leaving him with some injuries.

Emor whose case file reads CRB1400/2011 who was tested HIV positive would be charged with attempted defilement, according to Alyanga.
