First Lady takes MP oath

The swearing in of new MPs has entered a second day with the First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni among the MPs who have taken oath this morning.

The swearing in of new MPs has entered a second day with the First Lady Janet Kataha Museveni among the MPs who have taken oath this morning.

Mrs Museveni, the Ruhama County MP in Ntungamo district was accompanied by her husband.

President Yoweri Museveni and some members of the first family were welcomed at Parliament by the incoming Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga and her predecessor, Edward Ssekandi.

Clad in an army fatigue, Museveni stood on the left hand side of her wife as she took oath to serve her electorate and defend the constitution of Uganda.

Karimojong traditional dancers took to the floor amidst ululation as Janet, the state minister in charge of Karamoja affairs took oath.

The swearing in ceremony for MPs kicked off yesterday with a total of 125 MPs taking oath. Another 123 MPs swear in today and the last batch will take oath tomorrow.

The new Parliament will convene on Thursday. The first sitting will be presided over the Chief Justice for the election of the Speaker.
