DOUBLE Africa junior gold medallist Annet Negesa has no time to rest as she flies out today to Europe for a series of competitions.

Negesa, who arrived yesterday morning from Gaborone, Botswana, said her next target is qualification for the World Athletics Championships due in August in Daegu, South Korea.

She will, together with 3000m steeplechase bronze medallist Jacob Araptany and 1500m runner Emmanuel Sasia, fly out in the evening for international competitions that will last up to two weeks.

The 19-year-old, who won gold in the 800m and 1500m in Gaborone, will need to run below 2:01.30 and 4:08.90 in the respective races to qualify for the event in South Korea.

Negesa looks to sprints
“My target is to see that I qualify for the World Championships,” she said yesterday. Negesa said that she will now concentrate on the sprints.

UOC president Rogers Ddungu pledged to invest in youth athletes.

Meanhwile, Kenyan Olympic 800m champion, Pamela Jelimo has lauded Agnes Aneno for her splendid show in last weekend’s athletics meet in Mombasa.

The diminutive Uganda runner outclassed Jelimo to win the 200 and 400m events to confirm her stature in the region. “Ugandan runners (Aneno and Annet Negesa) have given me food for thought and there is no looking back,” said Jelimo.
